When I popped The Drop into my DVD player I expected mediocrity. Looking at the plot description, box art, cast, and crew did nothing to steer me in either direction on the hype scale.

I only wish The Drop was mediocre. Words cannot aptly describe how irritatingly mundane and stupid the movie actually is, but I’ll give it a try.

An eighty minute movie that is ridiculously padded with long sequences of nothingness, The Drop follows the exploits of Carter, a poor college student dreaming of a happy marriage with his fiancé. Out of the blue he is given the opportunity to make $5,000 for a half-a-days work. All he has to do is drive a sports car from San Francisco to a Los Angeles parking garage. Once he arrives, his boredom leads him to open a black briefcase that is inside the trunk. This bad decision will haunt him for the rest of the movie, as the cinematographer applies a blue hue that brings out Mr. Zero (Savage), the briefcase’s intended recipient. Much in the way of chasing and boring exposition follows.

The last time I gave a film released by MTI Home Video such a low rating was Fate, a 2004 film that I reviewed in April of last year. I gave Fate a 1, and there is serious temptation on my part to give this a .5. I’m not going, although I’m not exactly sure why.

There are no screengrabs from The Drop because it was so disinteresting that the whole process of pressing a couple buttons never crossed my mind.
