To put it lightly, Forbidden Warrior is unbelievably awful. Sure, I’m not a fan of kung fu films to begin with, but even the folks at Kung Fu Cinema slammed this one. It looks good, but that’s its only positive quality. It’s just a boring, boring movie that the world would be better off without.

When she was a child Seki was almost killed by the henchmen of evil warlord Che-Kan. She is apparently the chosen one who has been prophesized to rule over the land. The little girl manages to survive thanks to help from not just wizards, but also her father, who dies while rescuing her. Now grown up, Seki gets trained by another wizard, Aiis-Aka. And then a pirate shows up, there’s a book, and a character named Jibberish. That character’s name essentially sums up the film.

There’s so much dialogue in Forbidden Warrior that it comes off as more of a character study than an epic kung fu film. The dialogue, however, isn’t any good. So what we’ve got is an action film without action that employs mind numbingly dull dialogue read by actors who aren’t great actors. That’s a recipe for disaster, which is exactly how Forbidden Warrior came out of the oven.
DVD: A circle jerk of an audio commentary and a behind the scenes featurette that isn’t too bad.
