When Van Damme found success with Kickboxer, Bloodsport, and Lionheart, the direct-to-video world responded accordingly.

And by accordingly, I of course mean every single direct-to-video company wound up making some kind of movie revolving around kickboxing, the fighting circuit, etc. This isn’t PM Entertainment’s only film in the genre, but it’s probably one of the worst.

PM Entertainment had a brain fart here and decided that Lamas shouldn’t be fighting people in Final Impact. Instead, he’s fighting personal demons as a former star turned trainer who guides a young kid towards a championship bout with the man who retired him years before. Along with the obligatory fight scenes (choreographed nicely by Eric Lee) and lame montages comes scenes of Lamas rambling, taking his wife (Kinmont) for granted, and eventually getting into a single fight.

Nothing really clicks in Final Impact. No one wants to see Lamas playing a coach. They want to see him in the ring kicking ass, and Final Impact does not deliver that.
One extraordinary part of the marketing campaign for Final Impact is the advertising of Jeff Langton, who plays the champion, as having been in Rocky V. The untalented actor’s part was so small that he wasn’t even given a name.
