Dolly Dearest
Release Date: January 1992 (USA)
Genre: Horror | Thriller
Director(s): Maria Lease
Writer(s): Maria Lease
Starring: Rip Torn, Denise Crosby, Sam Bottoms

I remember watching Dolly Dearest when I was ten years old and remarking that it was a bad rip-off of Child’s Play.

I also remember watching Dolly Dearest two days ago and remarking that it was a bad rip-off of Child’s Play.

See a pattern here?

Little Jessica and her family move to Mexico to operate a long-abandoned doll factory. Add one half cup Rip Torn unearthing a mysterious Mayan crypt and one half cup not-freaky-enough doll, and you’ve got Dolly Dearest. It’s a very slow film that doesn’t even manage to pay off its slow pace with satisfactory kills. Hell, the ending is even half-baked.

One of, if the not the, worst ‘killer doll’ movies ever made.

DVD: The 2005 DVD release by Lions Gate is barebones.
