Yay, it’s another erotic thriller that involves murder, greed, and plenty of S-E-X! And look, it’s a Skinemax film, the term given to the dirty films that only air at 3 A.M. on Cinemax. Anyone who has seen one of these films has seen Deviant Obsession. Here, high-class lawyer Mike Hathaway is having an affair with the tired, dried-up lawyer Joan Alton (Brick Randall). And by tired and dried-up, I don’t necessarily mean her character. Randall, who has had one other film credit besides this, doesn’t have the good looks of the Skinemax girls, and she’s a horrible actor to boot. Shockingly, Hathaway’s wife turns out to be played by Gabriella Hall. Hall plays the straight-laced woman who shows Mike pictures of his escapades with Joan. Mike dodges her wrath, retreating to a strip club where he liquors himself up and sleeps with an unknown woman.

When he wakes up the next morning, Mike’s suddenly the prime suspect in the investigation of his wife’s murder. Just incase you’re wondering, yes, Gabriella Hall is killed off and never seen again just as quickly as she was introduced. Hall would show off her goods if she were cast in a children’s TV special, so having her character receive so little time, while bonafide porn stars Venus and Lauren Montgomery stumble around with blank stares is disheartening.

Anyway, Joan is convinced that Mike has been setup. By who she’s not sure, but it becomes her top priority to prove his innocence. Logically, this involves going undercover as a stripper while collaborating with Mike’s law firm partner. What gets me is here is that Randall doesn’t show a hint of hesitation when it comes to getting up and stripping in front of a crowd of horny guys. And this time I’m talking about her character. Lawyers typically aren’t the types that have full knowledge of how to perform erotic dances.

And big surprise, hidden secrets reveal murder, greed, and plenty of S-E-X! The true killer, by the way, is obvious as per the usual.

Just looking at director Eric Gibson’s resume reveals the pick-and-match method that studios seem to use for these films. Wicked, Temptations, Obsession, Deviant, Pleasure, Sin, Deception, Illicit, Desires, Sinful, and Innocence can be seen on many films.

There seriously isn’t much positive to say about Deviant Obsession. Sensing that the worst was yet to come, I started a tally of the number of breasts I saw from the beginning of the film. Fourteen, for those of you interested.

Come to think of it, for many people, there’s a good thing.
