Desperate Souls
Release Date: 4 October 2005 (USA)
Genre: Action | Horror
Director(s): Chad Archibald & Phillip Carrer
Writer(s): Chad Archibald & Phillip Carrer
Staring: Ryan Barrett, Karen Boshart, Buchanan Elliott

You’ve got a direct-to-video film in front of you with fantastic artwork. What does that usually mean?

If you guessed that inside is an unentertaining movie shot with a nonexistent budget that inexplicably got put out on the market by Lions Gate, you guessed right.

Years ago some orphans committed suicide with the intention of opening up a gateway to hell. A bunch of twentysomethings decide to camp out in the same place this all happened, and as a result, most of the campers wind up worse for wear. A ghost hunter in a fur coat abducts the one Kevin, who is the only survivor or whatever hell happened. They then spend the rest of the movie getting chased and looking for… Stuff.

This one has a ridiculous 1.2 on IMDb at the moment. That’s about .8 too low. I hate to give Desperate Souls such a low rating, as the directors were definitely ambitious and shot much of the film after running out of money the first time around, but it’s just an extremely difficult film to sit through.
DVD: Barebones.
