Dark Town is, to put it lightly, fucking out there.

While it’s far from tremendous, I still have to commend director Desi Scarpone. He managed to take a tiny budget and produce a DV horror film that goes all over the place and looks great while doing it.

After being attacked in a warehouse, Curtis Armstrong retreats back to his quaint home to have dinner with his family. We come to meet these wacky individuals through a series of scenes that showcases Armstrong’s lesbian daughter, her girlfriend, his other daughter, and his son and his pregnant wife who just so happens to be a hypochondriac. Add in some angry thugs looking for blood after a drive-by and a power outage, along with the fact that Curtis was turned into a vampire during the attack, and you’ve got Dark Town.

Filled to the brim with nudity, gore, humor, and even some underlying political themes, Dark Town makes for a fun time, especially if you’re the progressive type who doesn’t get disgusted at the prospect of a vampire fetus. Unlike 90% of the films I review on this site, Dark Town’s that kind of movie that I’ll pop in again a year from now and have an equally fun time watching it the second time around.

The main problem that I had with Dark Town is that, like many of these low budget horror features, it was an up and down ride. When it brought out the sex, violence, and hilarity, I had a great time. It was just that whenever that stopped to build up the plot, my interested faded until the trio of positives came into play again.
DVD: Barebones.
