“Take a shortcut through the quasar.”

Four keywords that Circuit Breaker falls under on IMDb are child murder, cyborg, nudity, and spacecraft.

Actually, I’m a little off. Those keywords correspond to the movie Inhumanoid, which is Circuit Breaker’s original title. Ten years after its production the Circuit Breaker title has still yet to be added.

And it was produced by Roger Corman’s New Concorde company.

Yes, this is quite the doozy of a movie. Likely using standing sets from a past production, and definitely using stock footage to represent the spaceship, Circuit Breaker stars an, as usual, expressionless Richard Grieco as an expressionless android named Adam. Sometime in the future Katrina (Harris), Foster (Bernsen), and their daughter Amy Carver are leisurely traveling space when they stumble upon a stranded ship. Adam is the only one alive, and since he seems like a fine guy, the Carver’s invite him onto their ship. While Foster goes back to the stranded ship to investigate, Katrina and Amy (Amy especially) come to learn that Adam, thanks to his programming not including morals, is a bloodthirsty killing machine.

In other words, for much of its running time, Circuit Breaker is a “woman in peril in an isolated location” film. Just instead of a cabin, it’s happening in space. And since New Concorde had a wolf costume lying around, this same woman who later gets stalked by Grieco has a fantasy where her husband turns into a wolf in mid-coitus. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.

Circuit Breaker is barely decent. When Grieco, Harris, and Bernsen are on screen, the film is tolerable. When it shifts to the b-plot, with a group of scientists searching for Adam, it becomes just plain annoying.
While I’ve never seen it, Circuit Breaker has been called ‘Dead Calm in space’ by more than one person. I’ll have to check that out one day.
