Now THIS is a Lorenzo Lamas movie. No, its rating isn’t high, but that comes with the territory. This is Lamas cracking one-liners, kicking ass, and blowing shit up while the bad guys are despicable, one-dimensional characters who shoot everyone they come into contact with. Nothing more is needed for an action film in this territory to be good, and that’s exactly what Bounty Tracker winds up being.

In a very violent opening sequence, a group of professionals enter a tax consultant’s office and proceed to blow the hell out of almost everyone present. The brother of bounty hunter Jonathan Damone (Lamas), Paul Damone, is the only survivor. When Paul and his wife soon turn up dead despite being under federal protection, it becomes apparent that only John will be able to take them down. The leader of this gang is the imposing Erik Gauss (the huge Hues), who has a very lucrative bounty on his head, although the ultimate goal is to bring gangster Luis Sarazini to justice.

Bounty Tracker then proceeds to follow Damone as he unravels clues, hands out beatings, and bonds with a trio of reformed street thugs whose mentor’s death he was responsible for. Director Kurt Anderson allows the fights to last long, often without lengthy dialogue. I loved this, as it allowed for quite possibly the longest fight of Lamas’ career. He battles a series of ninjas in a sequence that lasts somewhere between four and six minutes.

An action film like this isn’t rocket science, but the number of movies that get the formula wrong far outnumbers the quality ones.

It should be noted that Bounty Tracker was pretty much made out of response to Lamas’ success on “Renegade.” Not so coincidentally, Lamas played a bounty hunter in “Renegade” as well.
