“Beverly Hillbillies” + black people = Hilarity.

Or at least that’s what Tyler Maddox-Simms, the director, writer, and producer of Beverly Hood, seemed to be thinking when he came up with the idea for his first and only movie.

Surely getting more of an audience than it ever deserved thanks to York Entertainment touting Destiny’s Child in their film debut (with Kelly Rowland having a part so miniscule that she lacks a formal name), Beverly Hood is almost as bad as Bar-B-Q. That’s an odd thing for me to say, especially since Beverly Hood actually has production values that place it a tad bit above complete trash, but it’s true. While Bar-B-Q was painful to sit through and extremely unfunny, Beverly Hood is nearly as pain inducing and just as funny.

To put it short, Beverly Hood is a comedy that isn’t funny. Hell, I’m not even sure if it was SUPPOSED to be funny.

You know a film’s good when you hear the phrase, “If you’re ballin’ and you know it, clap your hands,” in the chorus of one of the film’s music tracks.

DVD: Barebones.
