Being Ron Jeremy
Release Date: 10 October 2003 (USA)
Genre: Short | Comedy
Director(s): Brian Berke
Writer(s): Brian Berke & Rich Williams
Starring: Ron Jeremy, Andy Dick, Mia Crowe and Brian Berke

It takes one powerful figure to get a forty-minute spoof of Being John Malkovich distribution to major retailers and video stores.

That man is porn star and cultural icon Ron Jeremy. After delving into Ron’s real life in Porn Star – The Legend of Ron Jeremy, comedian Brian Berke decided to take a different route than Scott J. Gill did. A self-mocking picture of both himself and Ron Jeremy, Berke has crafted himself a very funny film that would be so much better with a longer runtime.

Berke stars as Brian Pickles, a hopeless comedian who frequents the local adult shops a tad bit too much. Ron Jeremy, meanwhile, is Ron Jeremy. Between bouts of getting paid to have sex with nubile young women, Ron sits on his couch discussing both his abilities as an actor and the sexuality involved with double penetration with his personal acting coach and biggest critic Andy Dick.

In most worlds, Pickles and Jeremy would never have their paths cross beyond his television screen. That all changes when Pickles discovers a portal to the mind of Ron Jeremy inside one of the store’s peep show booths. For the period of time he, or anyone else, is inside Ron’s mind, they have the ability to control his actions. That is, of course, until Ron’s frequent gas comes up, at which point they fall out of the sky naked, right into an awaiting dumpster.

If you’ve seen Being John Malkovich, you might be able to guess how things go. If not, I won’t be the one to spoil it for you.

While some of the humor is admittedly a tad bit too juvenile for my tastes, Being Ron Jeremy is still a hilarious movie that needs to be seen. I only wish that the filmmakers had been able to make a feature out of the idea, as things move too fast.
DVD : The DVD for the movie is also jam-packed. You get to watch one of Ron Jeremy’s famous stand-up acts, followed by an informative Q&A that he has with the audience. You then get plenty of deleted and trimmed scenes, on-set conversations with the porn stars in the movie, and other features that make the total run-time of the DVD amount to over two hours.
