Initially shot with the slightly naughty Nymphs of Mystery Mountain as its tagline, Jim Wynorski’s third installment in the Bare Wench Project series was given the Path of the Wicked title to keep the whole shebang from sounding too much like the excuse for nude breasts that it is. Although to be completely honest, I don’t really remember there being much in the way of mountains in Bare Wench Project. There was, however, plenty of wicked nymphs, and really, does anything else matter but that?

If you’ve seen the first or second Bare Wench Project, you’ve pretty much seen Part 3. Only Path of the Wicked suffers from a lack of Lenny “Lunk” Juliano, who was the driving force behind the jokes that actually worked in the first two movies. Lunk, along with the girls from the first two movies, was sucked into a sexy alien spaceship that makes an appearance towards the end.

Bare Wench Project 3 has a few amusing bits, such as the “Blind Date” pop-up bubbles and random snippets of dialogue, but for the most part it doesn’t have much of anything for those who want to go beyond sex. For whatever reason, Wynorski decided to just cast himself as the cameraman, the position previously taken by the Lunk character. He shows his face for about five seconds to establish that, yes, someone’s holding the camera, and is never mentioned again.

What’s funny (at least to me) is that over the past eight years or so Jim Wynorski has virtually stopped using his real name on movies. Whether it is Jay Andrews, Bob E. Brown, or H.R. Blueberry, Wynorski has gotten into the habit over the years. It’s not because he’s upset with how the movies turn out (well, except for The Thing Below). He initially used the pseudonym Jay Andrews (for Andrew Stevens’ Phoenician Pictures) because, like Fred Olen Ray with Ed Raymond, too many movies being sold to distributors with the same directors attached look a tad bit too cheap.

What was the point of all that? Well, Wynorski is credited as the director, writer, and producer on (I believe) all the Bare Wench Project films. In the end the Bare Wench Project films and two or three other efforts are the only movies he’s attached his real name to in nearly ten years. Call me crazy, but to me it’s humorous that Wynorski’s directed more movies under pseudonyms than he has his real name.

Even though the humor isn’t up to the Bare Wench standard, it still has boobs and a nifty spaceship. If that’s enough for you I hereby recommend you watch Bare Wench Project 3: Path of the Wicked.
DVD: Barebones.
