If you enjoyed Lock, Stock, and Smoking Barrels and have been waiting for an American imitation to duplicate its success while still sticking to an action movie motif, Bad Apple is the movie for you.

Originally airing as a cable movie on one of the Turner networks, Bad Apple is an extremely energetic and well-written action film that delivers a peppering of everything in just the right places. The humor ad acting are both executed tremendously. There’s even a back-story behind it all that manages to make sense. And may also I mention that the cast is excellent, especially streaked-blonde villain Robert Patrick, who steals the show as the just perfectly over the top Tommy “Bells” Bellavita.

Undercover FBI Agent Mike Tozzi (Noth) teams up with a difficult informant to put the squeeze on murdering loan shark Bellavitta (Patrick). With his tooth aching partner and eventually his wife along for the ride, Tozzi gets into a sticky situation when he finds himself falling for the informant’s sister. Soon enough Tozzi and the girl are captured by Bellavitta, all while a higher-up mob boss realizes that Bellavitta is out of control and wants to put him out of commission.

There is not a single boring moment in Bad Apple. It’s not necessarily as much of a fast-paced movie as it is a fun movie that entertained me like few do. It is seriously that kind of film that I’d pop in and show to someone who likes to say that nothing worthwhile premieres on television.

Definitely recommended.
DVD: Sadly, this one is barebones.
