2B Perfectly Honest is a dialogue-driven independent film that is radically different from most films out on the market. It came a surprise to me, as I really didn’t think that it would turn out even half as good as it did.

Frank (Trese) is a twenty-first century businessman who hates red meat and likes to pretend that his problems don’t exist. While he has a good idea for his business to explore, one that involves placing advertising on popular websites that died when the dotcom bubble burst, he’s wound up out of money and home. After lying to his well-off parents by saying that things are being renovated, he moves back in with them and spends his time proposing his ideas to a variety of executives. Meanwhile, he seeks solace with a voluptuous pawnshop owner (in a subplot that goes absolutely nowhere) and hangs out at the shop belonging to his eccentric chess master friend (Turturro). When he finally does catch a beautiful break that allows he and his partner Josh to start their business back up, it turns out that their company is being used for money laundering. Frank doesn’t have much of a problem with this, but Josh does, which leads to much conflict and such.

For the most part, 2B Perfectly Honest is one of those films that lacks an interesting plot yet still manages to be intriguing despite it. The film’s strengths lie in its performances and dialogue. Most of the other elements of the film are ‘off’ during much of the movie, although it does pep up at points.

2B Perfectly Honest works as a semi-smart movie that’s appropriate for viewing on a date or just general viewing if your standards aren’t high.
DVD: Barebones.
